T4 - Floor 6
Humble greetings, fellow children of God,
Thank you for joining me today as I express some of the humorous stories and spiritual experiences I have been able to encounter this past week. As you read I hope that you find it an enjoyable experience and have an aching in your heart due to the fact that I am not with you. But fear not, because I am there in spirit, and I have a duty to the Lord that I must attend to.
Anyway, what's up? Life in the MTC is actually super fun because I have been blessed with a companion that I get along super well with (he's on the email list so I had to say that). For exercise we play basketball most days, but one day my companion and I went to play spikeball with some of the guys in our district and it was lowkey boring. It was like taking candy from a baby, they just couldn't do anything against me. I went 4-0. Even when someone would get a powerful spike I was there and perfectly flicked the ball up to my teammate and raced back to the net and then hit 'em with a fake-out hard spike into a drop hit. Due to the grass being slightly wet, I was literally taking ankles and making these kids fall to the ground.
The funny stuff:
- The mornings are cool enough that I can wear my hoodie, and I made the mistake of wearing only my hoodie to the field when we went to play spikeball at 10 am. At that point it wasn't very hot, but then the sun came out while we were playing and it got pretty dang hot. I would have been getting super hot, but luckily it was so easy that I didn't even break a sweat.
- Our zone leaders left for the field yesterday. To initiate the new zone leaders, they had to run down the hallway while all the Elders in the zone tried to smack them with pillows as hard as they could. Nothing beats non-violent violence, so that was fun.
- Elder Jagard (a guy in our room) was taking a nap on a fast Sunday around 1 pm. We had to leave for a devotional, and to wake him up Elder Kempton just yelled "Elder Jagard wake up! It's time for dinner!!" and as soon as he said "dinner," Elder Jagard's eyes shot open and he sat up super fast.
- Every time we get a break during class, my companion and I play with his hacky sack and see how long we can keep it up. We had a good rally going, and we were getting hyped. I don't remember exactly how it happened, but the ball was running along the edge of the wall about to hit the ground. Without thinking I went for the kick and kicked the wall super hard and marked it up. Didn't break anything though so don't worry about it.
The spiritual stuff:
- Going to the temple every week is the best. Every P-Day we have built in time to go to the temple! It always brings the Spirit.
- We also get devotionals from someone in the General Authority who speaks and it is always the best. This week was about the power of reading our scriptures and the importance of prayers!! It definitely has made my prayers this week more sincere and more often. No matter where I am, when I stop to say a prayer (in Spanish!!) I always instantly feel the Spirit and a peaceful feeling. But one thing they talked about that really stood out to me was the final step of a prayer. To listen!! Imagine someone comes up to you, asks a question, and then instantly walks away. So always take time to listen for a minute after saying a prayer.
- On Sunday we always have the "Go and Do" devotional where we pick a question on our own or a question they give us and have almost 2 hours to deep dive and study. My question was "How can I better abide in Christ?" and I listened to a talk by Elder Bednar from the last conference called "Abide in Me, and I in You; Therefore Walk with Me". It was amazing. He talks about 7ish different ways we can!! No spoilers, go listen to it yourself and write them all down.
Here are a few pictures from the week.
Last Friday we started doing classes with only Spanish! I've been learning a ton. Thank you for joining me today. I wish you success in your endeavors and bid you adieu.
yours truly 😸🙉😧,
Elder Bingham
P.S. Note from Mom: Luke mentioned that the food at the MTC is just okay, and he's often hungry at night. He's used to eating a snack before bedtime.... so of course I had to send my boy some snacks. I had to think of things that wouldn't melt in this heat! Dried mangoes, granola bars, animal crackers, mint Oreos, and Ritz crackers. I also sent him a copy of his patriarchal blessing (which we forgot when he left), and a few quotes for an "inspiration wall".
| He mentioned the Pres. Hinkley quote in his email. The lightbulb quote is his missionary scripture. |
I'm taking advantage of the means to easily send him packages while I can!
